A Guide to Rose Gold Bridal Jewelry

One of the trending themes in bridal jewelry is the use of rose gold. For the last several years, rose gold has been a remarkable choice for those who want a metal whose traits are unlike any other. Originally used in the late 1800s as the metal of choice for Russian aristocrats, rose gold had something of a falling out in fashion until it returned to public consciousness in the 1980s. But it hasn't been until the 2010s that rose gold came out of the shadow of yellow and white gold, standing strong as its own aesthetic choice.

More durable than pure gold thanks to the addition of copper to the alloy, rose gold is a great choice for bridal jewelry that will be worn 24/7. It's also favored for its color, which is either a gold-tinted shade of red or a blushing pink. In either case, the luster of gold shines through. Here at BARONS JEWELERS, we showcase a variety of rose gold ring options, and we're always thrilled to pair customers with the piece of their dreams!

Engagement Rings

An engagement ring is quite possibly the most feminine piece of jewelry on the market. It's exclusively worn by women, and reflects a set of ideals of connection and love that any woman would cherish. To that end, it shouldn't be a surprise that many designers are working with rose gold as a primary or secondary feature of their engagement rings. For example, the Simply TACORI collection from TACORI exemplifies the former: Its 18k rose gold offerings blend harmoniously with marquise-cut and princess-cut diamonds to create a piece that's demure, feminine, and eye-catching.

On the other hand, rose gold can act as an accent to lend some feminine charm to an otherwise icy design. Look to the "named" engagement rings from ArtCarved—on its own, white gold can be a chilly material, but adding rose gold not only complements the white gold around it, but also couches the fire of diamonds in an organic color.

Women's Wedding Bands

Because of their thin profile, there generally isn't enough space in women's wedding bands to utilize multiple metals. When you choose a rose gold wedding band, it's almost certainly going to be 100 percent rose gold. Many of our favorite designers have taken advantage of that in creative ways. For instance, Michael M pairs the modern cool of rose gold with other contemporary features, such as channel or pave settings to make bands that completely scream "modern."

And returning to TACORI for a moment, many of their rose gold bands sideline white diamonds in favor of colored gems that complement rose gold's color. Rubies, pink sapphire, black diamond, and pink diamond are all selected to lend some unexpected "pow" to a wedding band.

Men's Wedding Bands

While we've been talking about rose gold as a vehicle for creating women's bridal jewelry, it's also a great choice as an accent for men's wedding bands. Think of it this way: A debonair and masculine black suit pairs perfectly with a pink pocket square or a rose as a boutonniere. One of our favorite examples of this theory in action can be found in the Simon G. Men collection of wedding bands. Most of the pieces in this line tend to favor brushed white gold worked into shapes mimicking chains or mechanical parts. The addition of diamonds and polished rose gold, however, is a clear indication that these pieces should be viewed as pure luxury.
